FG Plans To Deploy Retired Soldiers To Secure Ungoverned Areas Amid Low Youth Enlistment
The Federal Government has announced plans to use retired military officers to help secure ungoverned areas across Nigeria.
The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), set up an 18-member committee to work on the plan. The committee will help bring back security to areas where government control is weak and also improve the welfare of military veterans.
According to the minister, retired soldiers will support ongoing security operations, help gather local intelligence, and work closely with communities. This approach is expected to reduce crime, ease pressure on serving soldiers, and help economic activities return to affected areas.
The government believes that involving experienced military retirees will improve security and bring peace and development to many troubled parts of the country.
