Gunmen have killed at least 100 people in Kwara state in west-central Nigeria.
A local lawmaker said between 35 and 40 bodies were counted after the attack on Woro village in the Kaiama area, however a Red Cross official told the AFP news agency that the death toll had risen to 162.
The attack happened on Tuesday evening, when bandits reportedly invaded the village and set shops and the traditional ruler’s palace on fire.
Several people were also reported injured, with some fleeing into nearby bushes. The location of the village king remains unknown.
The suspected jihadists demanded Sharia law and executed resisters.
Police and the Kwara state government confirmed the attack, blaming what they described as "terrorist" elements.
